Facelift / Neck Lift
Do you look in the mirror and wish you could create a more youthful or attractive appearance? If so, you may want to consider a facelift. Dr. Tantawi has performed numerous facelifts, often in conjunction with other facial procedures including a brow lift, neck lift, blepharoplasty (eyelid surgery), and frontoplasty (forehead surgery).
A facelift, or rhytidectomy, is a surgical procedure that improves visible signs of aging in the face and neck, such as:
- Relaxation of the skin of the face causing sagging
- Deepening of the fold lines between the nose and corner of the mouth
- Fat that has fallen or has disappeared
- Jowls developing in the cheeks and jaw
- Loose skin and excess fat of the neck that can appear as a double chin or “turkey neck”
What Takes Place During a Facelift?
Where the incisions are made depends on your facial structure, but they usually start above the hairline at your temples, continue down in front of your ear and curve up behind your earlobe, and to your lower scalp. If a neck lift is part of the procedure, a small incision is usually made under your chin.
Once an incision is made, Dr. Tantawi will trim or suction the fat below the skin, tighten the muscle and membrane, then pull the skin back in place and remove the excess. Dr. Tantawi will close the incisions with stitches and may use metal clips on your scalp.
The surgery takes several hours to perform—longer if done in conjunction with other procedures.
What Is a Neck Lift?
A Neck lift is also frequently performed with a facelift. As we age the skin and muscles of the neck weaken and can begin to hang. Neck lift surgery helps tighten the deeper layer of muscles and remove excess skin, giving a smoother, more angled neckline. Most patients have the neck lift performed with the facelift in order to achieve a more youthful appearance. In some instances, patients who have heavy necks with excess fat can be treated with liposuction alone to help contour the neck. These patients tend to be in their 30s and 40s and have good skin tone. Neck lift incisions are similar in location to facelift incisions and may include an incision underneath the chin and behind the ears. Recovery from a neck lift is essentially the same as for a facelift, with mild discomfort that usually subsides in a few days.
Other procedures that might be performed in conjunction with a facelift are a brow lift, eyelid surgery (blepharoplasty) to rejuvenate eyes, a frontoplasty (forehead surgery), lip surgery, and/or chiseled jawline/chin enhancement.
A brow lift, also known as a forehead lift or forehead rejuvenation, is a cosmetic procedure to raise the brows. A brow lift improves the appearance of the forehead, the brow, and the area around the eyes by raising the soft tissue and skin of the forehead and brow.
You might choose to have a brow lift if you have a low, sagging brow or brow asymmetry. A brow lift might also boost your self-confidence.
Blepharoplasty (Eyelid Surgery)
Eyelid surgery, or blepharoplasty, is a surgical procedure to improve the appearance of the eyelids.
Surgery can be performed on the upper lids, lower lids or both.
Whether you want to improve your appearance or are experiencing functional problems with your eyelids, eyelid surgery can rejuvenate the area surrounding your eyes.
What Eyelid Surgery Can Treat
- Loose or sagging skin that creates folds or disturbs the natural contour of the upper eyelid, sometimes impairing vision
- Fatty deposits that appear as puffiness in the eyelids
- Bags under the eyes
- Drooping lower eyelids that reveal white below the iris
- Excess skin and fine wrinkles of the lower eyelid
Frontoplasty (Forehead Surgery)
A frontoplasty is a procedure that refines and reintegrates the area fresh and youthful appearance of the forehead. This operation corrects drooping brows and improves marked lines which over the years make the person look tired, sad, bored, or angry.
Fuller lips may be accomplished through surgical implants, or more frequently, lip fillers such as Juvéderm® or Restylane®
Chiseled Jawline / Chin Augmentation
Chin augmentation surgery, also called genioplasty, improves the contours of the chin, neck, and jawline. Typically, surgery involves the placement of an implant around a patient’s existing chin bone to augment the size and shape of the chin and achieve a more naturally attractive balance between facial features. Chin augmentation with Dr. Tantawi can provide a permanent solution to improve a weak or recessed chin.
