It involves procedures such as tummy tuck, butt augmentation, liposuction, breast lift, and/or breast augmentation, vaginal laxity treatment, and facial enhancement.

What can I expect during my consultation?

Dr. Tanawi will review your medical history, explore your goals and expectations for the Mommy makeover surgery, recommend a surgical plan that would best help you achieve these goals, and address any questions or concerns you have about this type of surgery.

The decision about which procedure(s) would be best suited to enhance your body contours is based on what results you want to achieve. Once Dr. Tanawi has determined what procedures are suitable for you, he will go over all the details related to them including what they involve, the cost, how long it takes to recover from them and their associated risks. Ask as many questions as you need to in order to feel completely comfortable with the plan and ready for your Mommy makeover surgery.

What should I bring to my consultation?

It’s a good idea to bring pictures of how you would like to look after your mommy makeover, when you go in for your consultation, so that Dr. Tanawi has an idea about what it is that you want from this procedure. Your goal might not be realistic given your level of skin elasticity or other factors but showing him a picture can help him suggest a surgical plan that can achieve something close to what you have in mind.

You may also want to prepare a list of questions for this initial meeting with Dr. Tanawi, in order to get all of your concerns or doubts addressed at once.

The Mommy Makeover Procedure

The makeover procedure is done in the hospital under general anesthesia or IV drip sedation. You will be kept in the hospital overnight and will need someone to take you home and stay with you for several days while you are recuperating. Depending upon the procedures you and Dr. Tantawi have decided upon, you may undergo some of the following procedures:

Tummy Tuck (Abdominoplasty)

Complete Abdominoplasty

For a complete abdominoplasty, Dr. Tantawi will make a curved, horizontal cut, from hip to hip, near your pubic hairline, There will also be an incision made around your navel, as it’s necessary to free your navel for the procedure. Skin and fatty tissue will then be lifted from your underlying tissue, and separated, or slack muscle will be stitched as needed. Liposuction may or may not be done at this time.

At the conclusion of surgery, excess skin is trimmed and the navel is repositioned. The incisions are then stitched closed or taped. You may have a drainage tube inserted under your skin, which can be removed in a few days.

Partial or Mini Abdominoplasty

With a partial or mini abdominoplasty the incision is shorter due to having less excess skin. Your navel will not have to be moved, because your skin will be separated between your navel and the incision. You may or may not have a drainage tube.

Circumvential Abdominoplasty

When you have excess skin and fat in your back area, circumvential abdominoplasty may need to be done along with the stomach. This helps to shape your body from all sides, as it addresses the removal of skin and fat from the hips, and back area. Liposuction may also be done, to give a nice, even contour. and shape to your entire stomach and back.

Breast Augmentation

Breast augmentation surgery is a cosmetic procedure that uses either saline or silicone breast implants to increase fullness and restore youthful contours of the breasts.

The procedure is performed under general anesthesia, which means you are asleep during the operation. An incision is made in one of three locations: around or behind the nipple, around the areola (the dark skin surrounding the nipple), or below the fold underneath your breast. Either method may be used depending on what type of implant will be inserted – a traditional implant over the muscle, a subglandular implant resting just under your pec muscles, or a pocket-shaped implant placed just behind your natural tissue, called a submuscular placement.

If a saline filled implant has been chosen Dr. Tantawi will insert the implant through the incision and then it will be filled with the saline liquid. Silicone gel implants are prefilled, and will simply be inserted without the need to fill them. He will then complete the surgery by stitching up the incision, applying adhesive skin tape and applying a bandage dressing.

Facelift

There are two types of facelift procedures: the full-incision style and the mini facelift. During a full-incision facelift, scars run across the back of the head (tracheostomy), around the ears, and underneath the chin (mandibular incision). It is done under general anesthesia and you will be asleep and feel no pain. This type of facelift is best suited for older patients with more significant signs of aging.

The mini facelift procedure can treat loose skin, excess fat, and minor scars along the jawline. A mini facelift is a shorter version of a traditional facelift that provides only partial lifting of the face. It typically tightens the lower half or third of the face, while the upper part remains unchanged.

This procedure is a good option for those who want a more subtle lift. It can be combined with other procedures like an eye or eyebrow lift The mini facelift procedure is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes 2-3 hours. A small incision is made near the hairline, and the underlying tissues are lifted and tightened. Excess fat may be removed, and minor scars may be corrected. The incisions are then closed and wrapped with gauze.

Recovery from a Mommy Makeover

After your mommy makeover surgery, Dr. Tantawi will give you instructions for the best recovery possible. He will also prescribe you medication for pain and to prevent infection. It’s important to follow the recovery instructions carefully to avoid any complications in your healing.

For the first few days you will have considerable swelling and possible bruising so you will need to have someone that can stay with you and help.. You will need to rest and avoid any strenuous activity such as lifting, bending and making any contact with your incisions. Swelling will go down by the end of a week and you may be able to do more, or return to work. Returning to your regular activities may take 4-6 weeks.
