PDO Thread Lifts with Dr. Diya Tantawi
Dr. Tantawi specializes in PDO (Polydioxanone) thread lifts which can help you achieve a tighter, more youthful face that is safe and affordable.
A thread lift uses temporary sutures that are used to produce a subtle but visible lift in the skin. Instead of removing the patient’s loose facial skin surgically, Board Certified Dr. Tantawi simply suspends it by stitching up portions of it. This has the effect of pulling the skin back slightly and therefore lifting and tightening the face.
In addition to being ideal for lifting the skin, threads combat aging in another way: by provoking the body’s healing response and causing the body to direct large surges of collagen to treated areas. This is important because of the vital role collagen plays in the aging process.
FDA-Approved PDO Threads Work to Improve The Appearance of:
- Under-eye area
- Crow’s feet
- Nasojugal folds
- Nasolabial folds

Dr. Tantawi also offers Ultrasound face tightening (Ultherapy®), a non-invasive alternative to cosmetic surgery for lifting loose, sagging skin around the neck, chest, chin, and brow area. Ultherapy stimulates collagen production, which creates a more youthful look overall.

Thread Nonsurgical Breast lifts/Scar-less Breast Lifts
Dr. Tantawi also performs a breast lift using threads. This type of breast augmentation treatment lifts the skin and tissue of the breast into a higher, more youthful position. Lifts can be done independently or can be part of other breast augmentation treatments, such as enhancing or reducing the size of breasts. This particular lift is performed with pideal threads, also known as PDO threads. PDO lifts are minimally invasive and nonsurgical.
A PDO lift for the breasts works similarly to a PDO lift for any other part of the body. PDO threads are made with the same polydioxanone material that is used for cardiovascular surgeries. Threads are inserted into the skin at designated areas with a small needle, where the thread hooks into the tissue to pull and lift the tissue into a higher position. PDO threads can lift the tissue of breasts to contour breasts into a more ideal shape.
Thread Lift FAQ
What are PDO threads made of?
Polydioxanone — a clinically proven material already used in surgical sutures. It’s the preferred choice of material for a thread face lift as it naturally and safely breaks down and dissolves in the body.
Who’s the best candidate for a thread lift?
Men and women in their 30s and beyond who have mild to moderate drooping, lines, and wrinkles in the forehead, face and/or neck. We can also perform the treatment as a nonsurgical eyelift or on other areas of the body, such as, upper arms, stomach, and thighs.
You must also be in overall good health and have realistic expectations of the treatment. Facelift threading is best suited for those who want to enhance their appearance without resorting to cosmetic surgery.
How does a nonsurgical facelift with PDO threads work?
The insertion of the PDO threads triggers the body’s natural production of collagen and elastin, which lasts for at least 2-3 years. The threads themselves dissolve over six months as new fibrous connective tissue grows around them.
Do the threads need to be removed at a later date?
No, the threads will gradually dissolve in the body over six months, which actually helps stimulate collagen production. The threads work to return some of the skin’s elasticity, resulting in a reduction in sagging, lines, and wrinkles.
Will I be able to see the threads?
The threads are clear and cannot be seen once they are inserted under the skin.
What happens during the procedure?
Local anesthetic will be applied to the treated area, so you will be comfortable throughout your face thread lift. Dr. Tantawi will then use a cannula or a micro-needle to insert the PDO threads into the deeper layer of your skin. You will be able to return to your usual activities within a couple of days.
How long does treatment take?
Your non-surgical face lift will take around 45-60 minutes depending on the number of areas being treated.
When will I see results?
You will notice an immediate improvement right after your threading face lift. Optimal results will begin show over 2-6 months as collagen production is stimulated. The threads will dissolve over six months, but the results will be maintained for much longer.
How long do results last?
This varies depending on the patient’s age at the time of treatment, the quality of the skin, the degree of sagging and the number of threads used. However, results tend to last 2-3 years on average.
How do I care for my face after treatment?
Most patients experience mild bruising and swelling that lasts for 24-48 hours after treatment. This can be alleviated by using a cold compress and keeping your head elevated. Recovery time usually takes about a week.
