How Fotona® Tattoo Removal Works

Fotona’s Q-switched Nd:YAG laser combines 4 different wavelengths, – 1064 nm Nd:YAG for dark pigments, 532 nm KTP for red, tan, purple and orange inks, 650 nm for green inks, and 585 nm for sky blue inks. This allows removal of any color tattoos. It works by sending short, quick pulses, deeply into the skin, without damaging top layers. The pulses are absorbed by the ink and are turned into photoacoustic waves which break up the pigment so it can be absorbed by the skin.

The Fotona® QX Max Tattoo Removal Procedure

The size, depth, and darkness of the tattoo, will determine how long a treatment session lasts, and how many sessions you will need. Most sessions last anywhere from 10 – 45 minutes. Because tattoos are usually done in layers, it takes several sessions to break down the ink. Dr. Tantawi can give you an idea of how many sessions you will need to achieve complete removal.

The treatment begins with cleansing of the tattoo area. It is then injected with lidocaine for freezing. Dr. Tantawi then follows the design of the tattoo with the laser using the utmost precision. After the laser treatment, the area is iced and bandaged.
