Aging Face

As the years pass, facial skin begins to age. Though each of us is genetically programmed to age in our own unique way, certain factors can speed up or slow down the process. Skin type affects how quickly wrinkles appear and progress; sun exposure makes you look older by accelerating aging; some people’s skin loses collagen or elastin faster than others, causing wrinkles to form earlier; and genetic factors also play a role.

Though no one is immune to the effects of aging, there are many things you can do to make yourself look younger for longer. Below are the treatment options Dr. Tantawi offers to help you combat aging on your face.

Treatment Options for the Aging Face

Facelift

There are two types of facelift procedures: the full-incision style and the mini facelift. During a full-incision facelift, scars run across the back of the head (tracheostomy), around the ears, and underneath the chin (mandibular incision). It is done under general anesthesia and you will be asleep and feel no pain. This type of facelift is best suited for older patients with more significant signs of aging.

The mini facelift procedure can treat loose skin, excess fat, and minor scars along the jawline. A mini facelift is a shorter version of a traditional facelift that provides only partial lifting of the face. It typically tightens the lower half or third of the face, while the upper part remains unchanged. This procedure is a good option for those who want a more subtle lift. It can be combined with other procedures like an eye or eyebrow lift

The mini facelift procedure is performed under general anesthesia and typically takes 2-3 hours. A small incision is made near the hairline, and the underlying tissues are lifted and tightened. Excess fat may be removed, and minor scars may be corrected. The incisions are then closed and wrapped with gauze.

The Coolpeel® Procedure

The amazing and revolutionary technology that makes the Coolpeel® laser different is how it controls it’s output, and the precision in which an area can be targeted. By emitting short high energy pulses, it resurfaces the superficial layer of skin without the heat that would damage surrounding skin. The laser can be targeted to one area, or your entire face with dramatic results.

The nice thing about the Coolpeel®, is there is no anesthesia, and the treatment only takes 15-30 minutes depending on the area to be treated.

Your procedure will start with cleansing your face. A topical numbing cream will be applied upon your request. You will be given eyewear to cover your eyes and protect them from the light of the laser. The laser will be passed over the area and you will feel short pulses of energy being delivered to your skin. When the treatment is finished you can leave and assume your regular activities. The results will be immediately noticeable and your skin will continue to improve for the next six months.

Laser Skin Rejuvenation

Laser skin resurfacing can be used on any part of the body and is a non-invasive treatment that can provide dramatic results and younger looking skin with little downtime. It can be used to help with the following:

  • Smooths fine line and wrinkles.
  • Lessens or gets rid of surgical, acne and chickenpox scars.
  • Gets rid of age spots and hyperpigmentation.
  • Revitalizes sun damaged skin.
  • Fades or removes warts, birthmarks and stretch marks.
  • Tightens skin for a younger looking appearance.

All laser resurfacing procedures are done in our Beauty Refined clinic. It will take anywhere from 25 minutes to 2 hours for your treatment, depending upon the size of the area the laser is used on.

The area will be cleansed, and prepared for the procedure. Smaller areas will be numbed with a local anesthetic. For a full face or larger areas, general anesthesia or an IV drip sedation method, may be used to ensure your comfort. You may be given something to cover your eyes so the light from the laser doesn’t damage your eyesight.

Dr. Tantawi will then target the area with the laser and pass the laser over the area in an even motion. The laser will emit very quick light pulses which go into the deeper layers of your skin and exfoliate the top layers. After the laser treatment Dr. Tantawi will apply a special moisturizer and dressing to your skin.

The PDO Thread Lift Procedure for the Face

A thread lift can be used to tighten and plump the most common areas of your face such as eyes, cheeks, neck, and the jaw area. In addition, complementary procedures like ultrasound and dermal fillers, may be used alongside the thread lift

For the thread lift procedure Dr. Tantawi will thoroughly clean your face. Areas are marked where the threads will be inserted.

A local anesthetic is applied to the areas where the needle will be inserted. After the anesthetic has taken effect he will make a small incision in the area to be treated and insert a cannula (small tube) into the hole. A thread will be inserted and anchored into place, and the cannula will be pulled out. The thread is made secure in place and then cut. Once the thread is in place the incision is closed.

Aging Face FAQs

Beginning in your 40’s and up, skin begins to lose its elasticity due to the body not making as much collagen. As we get older into our 50’s and beyond skin begins to sag and volume is lost in the face.

To slow down aging you can exercise and eat a healthy diet, avoid smoking, wear sunscreen and use a moisturizer on your face daily. Laser treatments, facials and microneedling can also slow down the aging process on the face.
