What is Microneedling?
Microneedling, also known as (collagen induction therapy), is a minimally invasive cosmetic procedure that can be used to improve the appearance of your skin. At Beauty Refined a micropen is used, as it is more advanced and effective than a dermaroller, which can cause tearing wounds. The micropen is also better able to address smaller areas such as the eyes and around the nose. During your microneedling treatment, tiny needles are used to create controlled injuries in your skin. This triggers your body’s natural healing response, which leads to the production of new collagen and other connective tissue.

The Benefits of Microneedling
Microneedling is a treatment that uses very thin , small needles to create micro-injuries in the skin. This triggers your body’s natural wound healing process, which stimulates collagen production and helps reduce acne scars, fine lines and wrinkles.
The Benefits of Microneedling include:
- Improved texture & tone of skin
- Firmer skin with reduced appearance of pores
- Reduced pore size & blackheads
- Acne scarring reduction or elimination
- Fine line/wrinkle reduction or elimination
- Better absorption of serums and antioxidant creams
- Reduction of age and sun spots due to hyperpigmentation
Many patients report that their skin has lost it’s dull appearance and has a natural looking glow, and that their creams and makeup go on much smoother.
The Benefits of Microneedling
Although the actual treatment only takes about 30 minutes you can expect to be in the clinic for around 2 hours. This is because first your face is cleansed, then a numbing cream will be applied so that you are comfortable during the treatment. You will then wait around 45 minutes for it to take effect.
Once your face is numb Dr. Tantawi will use a microneedling pen to make stamp-like motions across your skin. The micropen that is used has removable, sterile, single-use cartridges so you can be assured that it is only being used on you, and to prevent infection. Because different areas of the skin have different depths Dr. Tantawi uses his skill and knowledge to know precisely how deep to go to get the benefits and avoid injury. Once he has made sure the areas are even in bleeding and redness the microneedling is finished.
After the microneedling treatment a serum is applied. A cooling mask will be put on and you can relax until it’s time to go. You will experience some redness and have some tiny pinpoint scabs. If you need to go out or return to work you may use makeup to cover the redness. The tiny scabs and redness will go away within a week, or sooner, and you will notice prettier skin. Dr. Tantawi and his staff will advise you on how to care for your skin post treatment.
