What is Fractional Laser Skin Resurfacing?
The use of lasers is a popular treatment in cosmetic procedures, because it’s a form of light therapy. A laser emits a certain wavelength of light that interacts with the molecules inside cells. When this interaction occurs, it stimulates new collagen production and removes dead skin cells from the surface of your skin. This leaves you with healthier,younger-looking skin. Fractional resurfacing is done with an ablative or nonablative laser. Sometimes both may be used.
An ablative resurfacing laser is called a wounding laser. It removes a thin layer of surface skin and heats up the lower dermis, which stimulates the growth of new collagen. As the surface skin heals the area becomes smoother and tighter.
Non Ablative Laser
The non ablative laser is non wounding and stimulates the growth of collagen. It is less invasive and over time, or repeated treatments, it improves the tone and texture of your skin.
The Benefits of Laser Skin Rejuvenation
Laser skin resurfacing can be used on any part of the body and is a non-invasive treatment that can provide dramatic results and younger looking skin with little downtime. It can be used to help with the following:
- Smooths fine line and wrinkles.
- Lessens or gets rid of surgical, acne and chickenpox scars.
- Gets rid of age spots and hyperpigmentation.
- Revitalizes sun damaged skin.
- Fades or removes warts, birthmarks and stretch marks.
- Tightens skin for a younger looking appearance.
The Laser Skin Rejuvenation Procedure
All laser resurfacing procedures are done in our Beauty Refined clinic. It will take anywhere from 25 minutes to 2 hours for your treatment, depending upon the size of the area the laser is used on.
The area will be cleansed, and prepared for the procedure. Smaller areas will be numbed with a local anesthetic. For a full face or larger areas, general anesthesia or an IV drip sedation method, may be used to ensure your comfort. You may be given something to cover your eyes so the light from the laser doesn’t damage your eyesight.
Dr. Tantawi will then target the area with the laser and pass the laser over the area in an even motion. The laser will emit very quick light pulses which go into the deeper layers of your skin and exfoliate the top layers. After the laser treatment Dr. Tantawi will apply a special moisturizer and dressing to your skin.
Recovery From Laser Skin Resurfacing
The first few days you will experience redness and swelling, something like having a mild sunburn. Dr. Tanawai will give you explicit instructions on how to care for your face or the area treated. It’s important to keep skin clean and moisturized with the products Dr. Tantawi gives you to care for the area. After 5-7 days redness will fade and your skin will begin to peel. You will be required to use sunscreen daily on the area to protect the new skin from sunburn.Your skin will continue to rejuvenate and it may take up to several months for the transformation to be complete.
FRACTIONAL SKIN RESURFACING FAQs
The number of treatments is dependent upon what the laser procedure is for. In general for optimal results 3 to 4 sessions are suggested. These can be done about a month apart so your skin can recover in between treatments.
Laser is better because it is more precise and easier to control. It’s a better way to target small areas, for scars and age spots. Laser also assists in deep collagen remodeling which helps to tighten and give a more youthful appearance to your skin.
The cost of a laser facial is dependent upon the type of laser used and how many sessions are required for the results you are desiring. Dr. Tantawi will give you the complete cost at your consultation appointment.
